Prerequisites: Before the instructor course begins, prospective candidates must be notified in writing that they must complete some requirements before the first instructor class session. When instructor candidates register for the Emergency Medical Response Instructor course through the American Red Cross Learning Center, they will receive notification via an email confirming the date, time and location of the course along with all the information needed to complete the prerequisite online component and obtain course materials. Instructor trainers delivering this course through the Authorized Provider (AP) or Licensed Training Provider (LTP) agreement should use the Sample Letter to Emergency Medical Response Instructor Candidates (Appendix A) as an additional method for providing instructor candidates information on completing the prerequisite in addition to the in-person precourse skill session. Prior to attending the first in-person session for the course, it is the instructor trainer’s responsibility to verify that each instructor candidate:

■ Is at least 16 years of age on the last day of the instructor course.

■ Possesses a current basic-level certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers or equivalent. Consult the Instructor Bulletin for a list of certifications accepted for this basic-level certification requirement.

■ Has successfully completed the online Introduction to the Emergency Medical Response Instructor course prior to the precourse skill session via the Class Roster Report and Online Content Completion Status Report.

■ Has obtained all instructor and participant materials before entering the first session of the instructor course. ■ Has successfully completed the precourse skill session.
